Abstract

One of the tests that are often carried out in the industrial world is the tensile test. Tensile test is the methods used to test and determine the strength of material by applying a load/force to the product used and placed on an axis in the opposite direction. This test uses a threaded bush product, which has an outer diameter of 6,94 mm, a length of 44 mm, using a M5 × 0.8 tap using 316 L Stainless Steel material. The product has a difference size in the depth of the thread length produced by the CNC machine, this is due to the instability of the machine used, resulting in varying thread lengths. The length of the thread is, with average minimum of 8,40 mm and maximum ranging from 14,40 to 18,40 mm. The purpose of this research is to determine the (Tensile Strength) and the resulting maximum load. In this test, two groups were used, the control group and the experimental group. The product without thread as the control group, and the product with variations in depth as the experimental group. From the tests carried out, the results showed that the product without thread had the highest load and tensile strength, 1,570 kg and 0.4153 kN/mm2. While in the experimental group, the product sizes 8.40 and 14.40 had the maximum load and the highest tensile strength of 1,558 kg and 0.4121 kN/mm2. While the product sizes 18.40 and 14.40 have the lowest load and tensile strength, 1,538 kg and 0.4067 kN/mm2.

Abstract

Tests for determining the elemental composition of stainless steel (SS) in the weld metal and Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) were carried out using the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Positive Material Identification (PMI) method with X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology. This study aimed to identify the chemical composition of metals using the PMI method with XRF technology as a determinant of the feasibility of the stainless-steel materials tested, namely SS 316 and SS 2205. The results of the tests were then matched with the applicable standards, namely ASME Section II Part A for pipe materials and ASME Section II Part C for welding electrodes. The measurement results show that SS 316 with welding electrode grade ER 316 all parts of the object of inspection fall within the standard range used except for material 4, which is the connection between the flange and elbow is declared rejected because the values ​​for Cr, Ni, and Mo do not fall within the standard range. Meanwhile, SS 2205 with a welding electrode grade of ER 2594 shows that all parts of the object being measured meet the requirements of the standard range used.

Abstract

Coupling 3 1⁄2” Mod EU (Modified External Upset) is an API 5CT (American Petroleum Institute) product specially made at customer's request, this product is a product that is rarely made at PT ELNUSA FABRIKASI KONSTRUKSI. In this API 5CT product, it is a Modified EU Coupling product which is designed to use an additional ring seal for extra protection on the oil-flowing pipe. To make a 3 1⁄2” Mod EU Coupling, use a CNC lathe by going through the Facing, Blanking ID, Threading ID and Grooving ID processes. The purpose of making this final project is to find out the process carried out and the use of the right method in the manufacture of 3 1⁄2” Mod EU Couplings at PT Elnusa Fabrication Construction, as a learning media or data retrieval, especially when making other Coupling products.

Abstract

In the world of industry, you can find many tools or machines that are used to simplify the process of human work. One type of tool that is widely used is a lifting equipment. Lifting equipment are equipment that are made and installed to lift, down, set and hold workpieces or load. One example of a lifting equipment is an overhead crane. Most overhead cranes are installed on the roof of the building (indoors) but can also be used outdoors. Along with the time to use an overhead crane, the longer it will definitely experience a decrease in quality both in terms of components and functions, it is necessary to control the feasibility management system and use permit. Based on the regulations of the Ministry of Manpower is Permenaker no. 8 tahun 2020 about K3 of lifting equipment and transport equipment. Which each lifting and transport equipment’s before being operated should be inspected and tested in advance, as well as periodic testing is carried out in accordance with the test standards have determined. The final task research uses descriptive qualitative analysis method, which is to get data by direct observation on the tool. When inspection and testing has been carried out according to standards, the overhead crane will receive a certificate and a safe use permit.

Abstract

In this era of globalisation, many industrial companies have been built, especially in the chemical field. Chemical industry companies need a tank to store chemicals production result with a framework design that is nice and strong and can be moved easily. The material used is the type of carbon steel (S275JR) using the SMAW welding process at 6G welding position with intermediate currents in 59 A-134A. The type of joint for the frame is butt-joint, fillet joint and lap joint. In order to guarantee the quality of the welding results, the material will be tested in Non-Destructive Testing with the Inspection method using liquid penetrant, the penetrant method is solvent removable with visible sensitivity at a light level intensity of 1000 lux. The welding results are determined based on acceptance criteria in AWS with ASME as a critical reference. If there no defects or discontinuities like liniear and rounded were found in section of pad eye and base frame, then all welding results will be accepted.

Abstract

Pressure vessels are one of the important components needed in the petroleum sector. A pressure vessel is a vessel that has pressure because it is used to store fluids in the form of liquid or gas which has the characteristics of being resistant to high and low temperatures. The object of this research is a pressure vessel which is operated at a low temperature of -25°C. The pressure vessel is fabricated through multi process welding, namely GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) on the root, SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) on the outside, and FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) on the inside. One of the quality of the welding can be seen from impact testing. Impact testing was carried out on the weld metal and HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) areas in each welding process at -25oC which was preceded by the PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment) process. A pressure vessel is considered to comply the standard if the impact test results show the energy absorbed is above 27 Joules. The impact test results show that all test specimens absorb energy above 27 Joules so that they comply the standards for use as pressure vessels and the welding process used can be applied in the manufacture of pressure vessels.

Abstract

High residual stress can occur in stainless steel and carbon steel weld joints due to difference of thermal expansion coefficients. Corrosion-resistant and mechanical properties of weld joint is affected by stainless steel sensitization, resulted by chromium carbide precipitation, and carbon diffusion on heat-affected zone. This study is conducted to investigate post-weld heat treatment effects of stainless steel 316 and AISI 1018 weld joint with 309L filler metal. As the post-weld heat treatment temperature rises between 400 and 700°C, the hardness value decreases. Observed microstructure of heat-affected zone shows dominance of ferrite phase which experiencing grain growth.
